Privacy Policy

OurVow is a daily ritual for Christian couples: each spouse answers the same question privately, and both answers are revealed together once you have both answered. Your words are some of the most personal things you will ever write. This policy explains, plainly, what we collect, why, and what we never do.
1. Who we are
OurVow is published by OURVOW PROJECT, a French simplified joint-stock company (SASU), registered office: Route de Béline, 97190 Le Gosier, Guadeloupe, France, registered with the Pointe-à-Pitre Trade and Companies Register under SIREN 104 302 468 ("OurVow", "we", "us"). We are the controller of your personal data.

2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, your first name, your spouse's first name, and your gender (used only to address your spouse correctly, e.g. "your wife" / "your husband").
- Your answers: your daily answers, your reactions to your spouse's answers, and the first answer you write when you sign up.
- Church code (optional): if you join through your church, the code that links your couple to that church's program.
- Messages to us: what you send when you contact support.
Information created when you use OurVow
- Couple and activity data: your couple link, invitation codes, the questions you received, reveal history, streaks and pages, and the dates you used the app.
- Settings: language, time zone (so your questions and reminders arrive at the right local time), and notification preferences.
- Notifications: a push notification token for your device.
- Subscription status: whether your couple has Premium access, trial dates and expiry. Payments are made through Apple or Google; we never see or store your card details.
- Security logs: when you request a sign-in link or code, or change your email, our servers record the IP address and browser or device type of the request, to detect abuse.
- Invitation link matching: when you tap an invitation link on our website before installing the app, we briefly store a one-way fingerprint made from your IP address and browser language so the app can find your invitation after installation. It expires after 24 hours.
What we do not collect: no location, no contacts, no photos, no advertising identifier. We measure how OurVow is used — screens and actions, never your answers — with PostHog, without cookies or advertising identifiers.
3. How we use it, and on what legal basis

Your answers are never read by us for any other purpose, never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train artificial intelligence. We do not analyze your answers with AI.
4. Who can see your answers
- Your spouse, and only after you have both answered that day's question. The reveal is enforced on our servers, not only in the app.
- Nobody else in your couple's life: not your church, not your pastor.
- Our service providers store your data on our behalf (§ 6) but may not use it for their own purposes.
- Authorities, only when the law requires it. See also "Legal proceedings" in our Terms of Use.
Your answers are encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest in our database.
5. Churches
If you joined through your church, your church leaders see anonymous, aggregate numbers only (for example, how many couples are active in the program). They never see your names, your email, or a single word you or your spouse wrote, and nothing they see can identify your couple.
6. Service providers
We share data only with the providers we need to run OurVow, each under a contract that limits them to our instructions:

Apple and Google process your payments under their own privacy policies; they act independently of us.
7. How long we keep your data
- While your account is active: for as long as you use OurVow.
- When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account): your account and your answers are hidden immediately, including from your spouse, and your spouse is notified. Thirty days later, your account and your data are permanently deleted. If your spouse has also deleted their account, your couple's shared data (questions, streaks, invitations) is deleted as well.
- Backups: deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 8 days before being overwritten.
- Security logs: up to 30 days.
- Invitation link fingerprints: 24 hours.
8. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- access your data and receive a copy in a portable format;
- correct it (you can change your name and email in the app);
- delete it (in the app, or by email);
- restrict or object to its use;
- know which providers receive it.
Email support@joinourvow.com from the address linked to your account. We answer within 30 days and never charge for it.
California residents: we do not sell or share your personal information, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Residents of the European Union: you may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or with your local authority.
9. International transfers
OurVow is operated by a French company and our servers are in the United States. When your data is transferred from the European Union to the United States, we rely on the safeguards offered by each provider: certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses included in its data processing terms.
10. Age
OurVow is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we delete it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
